Why did my UPI payment fail?

UPI payments are quick and convenient, but sometimes a transaction may fail due to common and easily fixable reasons. Understanding these reasons can help you resolve the issue faster and complete your payment smoothly.  Below are the most common causes of UPI payment failures explained in simple terms:

1. UPI request expired

If the UPI collect request is not approved within 5 minutes, it automatically expires and the transaction fails.

2. Incorrect UPI ID entered

Entering an invalid or incorrect UPI ID can result in a failed transaction.

3. Insufficient bank balance

If there is not enough balance in your bank account, the UPI payment will not go through.

4. Incorrect UPI PIN entered

Entering the wrong UPI PIN while authorising the payment will cause the transaction to fail.

5. Daily UPI limits exceeded

Your bank or UPI app may restrict:

  • Daily transaction count
  • Daily transfer limit (usually up to ₹2 lakh per day)
Once these limits are reached, further UPI payments will fail.

6. Bank or UPI app technical issues

Temporary downtime or technical issues at the bank or UPI app level can also lead to failed payments.
