What is legal guardian letter and why is it needed to open a minor account?
A Legal Guardian Letter is an official document issued by a court that names you as the legal guardian of a minor. It confirms that you have the authority to make financial and legal decisions for the child — such as opening and managing their Demat or investment account with Arihant Plus.
- You’ll need a Legal Guardian Letter when opening a minor account if you’re not the child’s biological parent.
- As per SEBI regulations, a minor account must always be operated by a guardian until the child turns 18.
- If you’re the father or mother, your relationship with the child is enough — no additional document is required.
- But if you’re a grandparent, relative, or any other person appointed by the court, you’ll need to submit a Legal Guardian Letter issued by the court to confirm your authority to act on the minor’s behalf.
