Who is the Karta in a Hindu Undivided Family?

In a Hindu Undivided Family (HUF), the Karta is the head and senior most person of the family. Traditionally, the eldest male member is considered the Karta, though the Supreme Court has allowed even the eldest female member to act as Karta in certain cases. The Karta holds the authority to make financial and legal decisions on behalf of the entire HUF and manages its assets and affairs. While other members (coparceners) have rights, the Karta holds a unique position of responsibility and control.
